Think you’ve got what it takes to supervise the construction of massive buildings and commercial properties ranging from shopping malls to apartment buildings? If so then Gwinnett Tech’s Commercial Construction Management program could be just what you need to break into this exciting field.
Students in the program work with seasoned industry veterans to acquire the knowledge they need to supervise hundreds of people and get the job on time and under budget.
“As commercial construction managers we direct everybody else on the project,” says program director David Barrett. “We take the project and the plans from the owner and the architect and incorporate what’s on paper into three-dimensional concrete, sticks, bricks and dirt.”
Of course it wouldn’t be a Gwinnett Tech program without a healthy dose of hands-on learning. Students in the program regularly visit active construction sites to get a sense of what life in the field is like and to get inside information from working professionals.
“It teaches students to use their critical thinking and realize that there are no silver bullets out there to solve problems,” says instructor Samuel Delgado. “You have to be innovative and approach things as they present themselves.”
